Definition of shiatsu.
What is shiatsu?
"Shiatsu is a manual therapy applied by leaning forward in a relaxed manner with the weight of one's body to an optimum point, and the correct use of fingers, palms, etc., in order to apply sustained, stationary pressure on different parts of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health"
It is a holistic therapy that aims to treat most of the body in each session."
There are several styles of shiatsu with different theoretical and technical approaches. Our definition has been constructed to emphasise the common points of all the styles.
It is not an unchangeable definition, but it evolves with suggestions from practitioners. If you would like to suggest changes please contact us.
